§ 4.1 a écritAucun réseau détecté
Dans le cas où Network-Manager ne détecte aucun réseau alors qu'il devrait en détecter automatiquement au moins un, il est vivement conseillé de commencer par vérifier sa configuration matérielle. Ceci inclut :

Votre fil réseau est-il bien branché dans la fiche de votre carte réseau ? et dans votre modem-routeur ?
Votre adaptateur de réseau sans fil est-il sous tension ?
Votre carte réseau est-elle reconnue ?
Consultez le portail "Réseau" pour une plus ample aide à la configuration de votre carte réseau.

Tu n'as toujours pas la connexion filaire ?

As tu essayé avec un autre câble RJ45 ?

Oui pour ces points
network manager est installé ... rien de nouveau
la wifi fonctionne sur l'autre portable
pas de connexion filaire possible en changeant les cables ou en les testant sur d'autres ordis
cet ordi avait une connexion internet avant de passer de xubuntu à Mate
Pour la carte réseau...

Il faudrait regarder dans le BIOS si des options équivalentes existent (c'était un Dell Latitude E 5400) :

Ce paramètre détermine quels périphériques sans fil peuvent être commandés par le commutateur sans fil

N’y aurait pas là une procédure pour activer le wifi sous Ubuntu ?

2 - Dans cette rubrique Wireless du Bios il y a aussi une autre sous-rubrique Wireless Devices avec 3 cases cochées :

Enable Internal Bluetooth

Je viens de décocher les 3 cases de mon point 1 ci-dessus et oh miracle, je vois les connexions wifi de mon entourage mais malheureusement ma connexion Wifi ne tient pas longtemps... mais c'est un progrès!

Après un rebootage, tout est rentré dans l'ordre et je peux donc me connecter en Wifi sous Ubuntu à la fois avec le Wifi de mon PC et ma clé Wifi....

ba la carte..pardon je suis...pas en forme..la carte justement c'est elle qui emm...rde depuis le début
C'est la Marvel 80E8042 (dire que je connais son numéro par coeur) bref
C'est elle qui est pas reconnue et je trouve pas d'autres firmware que ceux annoncés au dessus

Pour le wifi , vérifies le chiffrement de la Box , comme le conseille toutafai dans de nombreuses discussions :

Ta box utilise un double chiffrement (à la fois du wpa1 et du wpa2), c'est certainement la source de ton problème.
Connecte toi sur l'interface d'administration de ta box et change moi cela pour
soit que du wpa1 TKIP,
soit que du wpa2 AES
(ne pas oublier d'enregistrer les changements sur ta box),
Une fois que ce sera fait, tu ne devrais plus avoir de déconnexions
