Bonjour,
Depuis que je suis passé sous ubuntu 20.04, lorsque que je lance thunderbird un terminal à ce nom s'ouvre. Il faut ensuite attendre patiemment le déroulé de la succession des lignes de commandes avant que ne s'ouvre ma messagerie. Par la suite tout fonctionne. Merci de votre attention.
On peut commencer par chercher son lanceur pour vérifier ce qu'il lance exactement : 
ls /usr/share/applications | grep thunderbird
ls ~/.local/share/applications | grep thunderbird
((Ces 2 commandes obtiennent la réponse : "ls ~/.local/share/applications | grep thunderbird")).
Après ces  7 jours d'approche du "champs des commandes" où j'ai tout à découvrir
j'ai repris toutes le commandes qui m'étaient conseillées.
 Effectivement en réponses aux 2 commandes précédentes 
j'obtiens        thunderbird.desktop
Comment ça ? La première devrait normalement renvoyer "thunderbird.desktop". Et la deuxième pourrait renvoyer un ou plusieurs fichiers .desktop.

Cela dit, je pars du principe que tu as installé Thunderbird depuis les dépôts, c'est bien le cas ?

Et si tu ne veux pas divulguer ton nom d'user, tu le remplaces par "toto" ou ce que tu veux.
Quand je fonctionnait sous ubuntu 18.04 il n'y avait pas cette singularité. J'ai il me semble avoir toujours pratiqué toutes les mise à jour en passant par la fonction de mise à jour présente sur mon ordinateur.

A la commande "ls -la ~
j'obtiens une longue liste relative à des dossiers et fichiers accumulés pendant plusieurs années: un total de 1434668 entre 2013 et ce jour. Tout ces fichiers me sont attribués. Dans la dernière colonne les caractères figure en blanc, bleu, rouge vert, violet.
Par exemple: snap en bleu
TEtmp.mid en vert
scan_1.png en violine
libupnp-1.3.1.tar.gz en rouge
Quand tu parles de ménage...comment faut-il s'y prendre je n'y connais pas grand chose.

Entrer des commandes dans un terminal et donner le résultat - Voilà la marche à suivre :
  1. Ouvre le terminal avec ctrl-alt-t
  2. Sélectionne la commande voulue avec un triple clic (ça sélectionne toute la ligne, même la fin si on ne la voit pas)
  3. Colle-la dans le terminal avec un clic molette, valide avec Entrée
  4. Sélectionne et copie tout ce que te dit le terminal depuis la commande jusqu'à la dernière ligne incluse
  5. Clique sur le <> de l'éditeur de message

  6. Colle là où se trouve le curseur (entre le ] et le [)
  7. Refais toutes les étapes depuis la 2 pour les autres commandes.
L'idée ici quand on suggère une commande, c'est que tu nous en montres le retour complet.

D'où l'intérêt des balises code aussi, qui facilitent la lecture, surtout avec des retours parfois longs ( plusieurs dizaines / centaines de lignes ).

Les couleurs indiquent des propriétés des fichiers ( si ce sont des dossiers, liens, exécutables, avec des permissions spéciales, etc )
Le rouge me fait penser que Tout ces fichiers me sont attribués n'est pas vrai…

Bon tu ne veux peut-être pas montrer le détail de ton répertoire perso, pourquoi pas, montre au moins le retour complet de 
find ~ ! -user $USER

Ce n'est pas du tout une commande à lancer, Coeur Noir voyait juste ce retour de la part d'APT qui montre un dépôt Saucy (Ubuntu 13.10 − ça date !) dans tes sources. D'où sa remarque sur le fait qu'il faudrait faire du nettoyage.

Donne le contenu de ton sources.list et de tes dépôts tiers éventuels (il n'y en a pas dans le retour mais peut-être qu'il y en a qui sont désactivés) : 
cat /etc/apt/sources.list
ls /etc/apt/sources.list.d
cat /etc/apt/sources.list.d/*.list
EDIT : d'après ton mail (c'est mieux de passer par le forum), si j'ai bien compris, tu as un thunderbird.desktop en retour seulement avec la deuxième commande du message #2 (celle qui concerne ~/.local/share/applications) ? C'est assez bizarre : si TB est installé depuis les dépôts, il devrait y avoir un thunderbird.desktop au moins dans /usr/share/applications (première commande du #2). Dans le doute, essaie d'ouvrir le fichier que tu as trouvé avec un éditeur de texte : 
gedit ~/.local/share/applications/thunderbird.desktop
Si ça t'affiche bien du contenu, poste-le ici.

On va faire le ménage dans tes sources. Je vais te donner à chaque fois la commande à taper pour éditer le fichier avec Nano, puis le contenu correct. Après chaque modification, pour enregistrer le fichier, il faudra faire ctrl + O, valider le nom, puis ctrl + X pour fermer Nano. Pour supprimer rapidement des lignes dans Nano, tu peux utiliser ctrl + K.

2) Nettoyage des fichiers obsolètes :

Je te fais supprimer le fichier google-earth-pro.list, il est identique au google-earth.list, ainsi que fossfreedom-ubuntu-libmtp-xenial.list (libmtp) qui est complètement obsolète.

Note : pour ce dernier, l'adresse du dépôt semble avoir changé. J'ai corrigé en fonction de ce que j'ai trouvé mais c'est à vérifier (si tu utilises encore ce soft).

Au moins 3 fois Jean LE DUFF on a évoqué la nécessité d'utiliser les balises code pour mieux présenter les retours de commandes.
Ça améliore la lisibilité et donc la compréhension, pour tous : les aidants, les aidés, les autres qui liraient cette discussion parce qu'ils ont un souci similaire.
P'is c'est plus reposant pour les yeux fatigués des vieux aidants…

Il faut utiliser cette procédure de la Doc > kernel#via_autoremove, pour enlever les noyaux 3.11, 3.13 et 4.4.
extrait § 5.1 a écritEn pratique, si un ou plusieurs vieux noyaux résistent à la purge, il suffit de passer cette commande dans le terminal :
apt-mark showmanual | grep -E "linux-.*[0-9]" | grep -v "hwe" | xargs -r sudo apt-mark auto
Puis de repasser la commande de nettoyage automatique :
sudo apt autoremove --purge -y
Après cela, il ne restera que le dernier noyau et l'avant-dernier
